2023년 9월부터 국제학부장으로 취임하게된 김연규 교수입니다. 저는 2004년 한양대학교에 국제학부가 처음 설립된 2004년부터 국제학부에서 강의를 시작하여 올해로 20년째 하고 있습니다.

지난 20년동안 국제학부는 많은 변화가 있었습니다. 당시에는 모든 과목을 영어로 가르치는 국내의 진정한 국제화된 학부 교육의 선구적인 프로그램이었습니다. 단순히 영어로 가르친다는 사실 뿐 아니라 전공교육의 내용면에서도 국제관계, 국제법, 국제경제, 국제경영 등을 융합적 학제적으로 통합하는 교육과정을 제공한다는 면에서도 관심을 끌기에 충분했습니다.

전 세계 다양한 국가와 지역에서 해외 영업을 공격적으로 넓혀가던 다양한 사업 분야의 대기업들은 미국과 유럽의 여타 대학생과 견주어 빠지지 않는 수준의 영어구사력과 국제정치, 국제경제 경영문제에 대한 폭넓은 지식을 가진 국제학부 졸업생들을 지속적으로 직원으로 선발해 왔습니다.

국제학부 졸업생들은 금융권, 국책연구원 연구진, 국내외 석박사 과정 진학 등 다양한 분야에 진출해 있습니다. 지금까지의 국제적 인재양성의 성과와 전통에 기반해 2030년까지의 6-7년 동안 한양대학교 국제학부는 이제 새로운 도약을 해야 합니다. 한양대학교 국제학부는 국제화 교육과 연구의 새로운 모델을 이제 제시해야 합니다.

한양대학교 국제학부의 21세기형 국제학 교육은 미중 패권경쟁, 첨단산업 등 신흥산업과 기술의 등장, 기후위기, 인도태평양 지역의 등장, ESG 등 학제간의 경계를 넘어서는 창조적, 융복합적 교육을 수행해야 합니다. 우리 사회에서 ESG[Environmental(환경), Social(사회), Governance(지배구조)]가 큰 화두입니다. E는 친환경경영, S는 사회적 책임, G는 투명한 지배구조를 의미합니다. 한양대학교 국제학부의 연구와 교육에 E를 비중있게 포함시키고 우리 사회와 기업들이 필요로 하는 인재양성에 매진하겠습니다.

This is Professor Younkyoo Kim, who has just taken office as Dean of the Division of International Studies (DIS) starting in September 2023. I have been teaching in the Division of International Studies since 2004, when the DIS was first established at Hanyang University, and this is my 20th year working in the DIS.

There have been many changes in the DIS over the past 20 years. At the time, it was a pioneering program of truly internationalized undergraduate education in the country, with all subjects taught in English. It was enough to attract attention not only because it was taught in English, but also because it provided a curriculum that integrated international relations, international law, international economics, and international management in a convergent and interdisciplinary manner.

Large corporations in various business fields that have been aggressively expanding their overseas sales in various countries and regions around the world are international students with English proficiency and extensive knowledge of international politics, international economics and management issues comparable to other college students in the United States and Europe. We have continuously selected undergraduate graduates as employees.

Our graduates are hired by major corporations and organizations in Korea and abroad in various fields, including the financial sector, researchers at national research institutes, and master's and doctoral programs at home and abroad. Based on the achievements and traditions of nurturing international talent so far, Hanyang University's DIS must now take a new leap forward over the next 6-7 years until 2030.

We intend to present a new model for international education and research. The 21st century international studies education at Hanyang University's DIS must provide creative and convergent education that goes beyond interdisciplinary boundaries, such as the U.S.-China hegemony competition, the emergence of emerging industries and technologies such as high-tech industries, the climate crisis, the emergence of the Indo-Pacific region, and ESG. ESG [Environmental, Social, Governance] is a big topic in our society. E stands for eco-friendly management, S stands for social responsibility, and G stands for transparent governance. We will include E in the research and education of the DIS at Hanyang University and strive to cultivate talent needed by our society and companies.
